Oregon Students of Color Coalition Field Organizer
(Position is located in Portland, with travel throughout Oregon)
The Oregon Students of Color Coalition (OSCC) Field Organizer is responsible for both the creation and development of campaign strategies on issues impacting students of color, as well as developing anti-racist and anti-oppressive programming for the Oregon Students Association. This includes creating and developing a statewide racial justice conference; supporting OSCC specific lobby days and advocacy work; providing technical and on-site support for issue campaigns prioritized by OSCC and OSA students, as well as campus and student-group specific campaigns and projects; voter registration and education of marginalized communities, including developing community specific and culturally competent strategies and tactics for engagement, as well as recruitment to OSA events and functions.
The OSCC Field Organizer works primarily with students of color involved in ethnic and cultural student organizations and within student governments, and also works to support general OSA membership and campus-based projects This includes intentional leadership development of students of color. Knowledge of or previous experience with community building and movement building strategies is important.
The OSCC Field Organizer reports to and receives support from the Organizing Director, and works collaboratively with other OSA Field Organizers and the Equal Rights Organizer. This position is based out of Portland, but as a field organizer will travel to campuses across the state to support on-campus and organizational priorities. The OSCC Field Organizer can typically expect to spend 2-3 days on field campuses per week during the school year, to provide direct support to students’ organizing and advocacy work, and continue to ensure that students of color in Oregon are engaged, empowered and supported. Access to a personal vehicle is required for this position.
